Fujiko F. Fujio’s manga, Doraemon, has been a favourite among many around the world since its creation in the 1970s. To the excitement of fans in Hong Kong, the character and his friends are coming to Hong Kong for not one, but two exciting happenings!
The 100% Doraemon & Friends Tour kicked off on Saturday, 25 May, with a Doraemon drone show over Victoria Harbour! Starting at 7.30 pm and lasting around 15 minutes, spectators got to see the beloved characters from the manga series light up the Hong Kong sky. The drone show is a teaser to a special Doraemon exhibition set to land in Hong Kong in July, and celebrates the launch of tickets sales early that day.
Organised in collaboration between AllRightReserved and Fujiko Pro, the highlight of the 100% Doraemon & Friends Tour is without a doubt the exhibition running from 13 July to 4 August at the Avenue of Stars and Tsim Sha Tsui Harbourfront, although hundreds of never-seen-before giant Doraemon sculptures will make surprise appearances in other locations.
Under the theme “A True Friend is Always There When You Need Them,” the exhibition is held in honour of Fujiko F. Fujio’s ninetieth anniversary. It is anticipated to be one of the largest Doraemon exhibitions ever, with both free-entry zones and ticketed areas, featuring elements taken from the original manga and the Doraemon movie universe, a Hong Kong-exclusive Doraemon short film released for the occasion, and the reveal of the special 100% Friends-Calling Bell gadget.
The free-entry outdoor exhibition area comprises the tallest 12-metre inflatable sculpture of Doraemon in the world, surrounded by comic panels and life-size sculptures of characters from the universe. The Avenue of Stars will be revamped with a blue carpet, celebrating the Hong Kong film industry in Doraemon style.
Tickets to the exhibition will go on sale on Klook on 25 May at 11 am. You’ll have to reserve a specific date and time slot upon purchasing tickets. The 10,000-square-foot exhibit located within K11 Musea will house the projection of a new animated short film, an immersive zone, interactive installations, artwork, sets of sculptures, and more. Fans can go for the premium set package, which is inclusive of a ticket to the exhibition, a set of nine limited-edition pins, and on-site advantages. More details about the 100% Doraemon & Friends Tour exhibition will be revealed on the day of the drone show and when ticket sales go live.
