Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong is back in town! Offering exciting collections, the event is returning to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 16 until 19 May for an art-filled weekend. Celebrating its eleventh year in Hong Kong, the event displays contemporary art at accessible price points—all artworks are clearly priced, and all art is priced at under $100,000 per piece.
Affordable Art Fair is an annual event that connects art lovers with accessible art. Under this year’s theme “I Am an Art Collector,” 97 local and international exhibitors will be present to help fair-goers find the perfect piece of art for them—whether you wish to complete an already existing collection or are taking the plunge and buying your first-ever piece.
Clearly priced and created by emerging and living artists only, sales at the Affordable Art Fair support today’s art ecosystem; those values are expressed throughout the fair in the Young Talent Hong Kong programme, live performances such as the gripping and intimate creation Chrysalis, and a silent auction curated by Hong Kong-based City Magazine.
Six large-scale installations will be on display as part of the commissioned Special Project programme. Among other installations, guests can expect to see ink work such as A Feat of Chinese Ink Painting, a street-art inspired wall by Ceet Fouad known for his “chicanos” chicken characters, and straw-made bear sculptures by Korean artist Jung Chanboo.
Immersive as ever, you can also experience Affordable Art Fair’s speakeasy bar, Neon. Curated by artist Jonathan Jay Lee, the space is inspired by the side-alley bars of the Sham Shui Po neighbourhood. Hong Kong-inspired cocktails crafted by Yardbird and Ronin’s former head sommelier and beverage director Kiyoshi Hoshimi-Caines will be on offer. The experience lasts 45 minutes and Johnathan Jay Lee will be present. Remember to add on tickets to Neon when purchasing your tickets to the fair if you don’t want to miss out.
