The annual Hong Kong Book Fair is returning to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 17 to 23 July for its thirty-fourth edition, organised by the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council.

This year’s theme is “Film and Television Literature,” with over 600 seminars, book releases, signings, and activities centred around the question of “Reading the World: Storytelling from Page to Screen.” This multimedia theme hopes to encourage more people to read, and put forward the strong links between literature and film in Hong Kong.

The event is also a way of showcasing Hong Kong’s standing as an East-meets-West cultural hub. To discuss the literary world of cinema, the fair welcomes screenwriter Joyce Chan, writer Chiang Hiu Mei, filmmaker and critic Law Kar, film writer Erica Li, dramatist Raymond To, and novelist and screenwriter Norris Wong, among other creatives.

Eight seminar series explore various aspects of literature, namely “Theme of the Year—Film and Television Literature,” “World of Knowledge,” “Hong Kong Cultural and Historical,” “English and International Reading,” “Lifestyle,” “Personal Development and Spiritual Growth,” “Children and Youth Reading,” and “Renowned Writers.”

Joining the seminars are personalities of the literary world such as writers Ban Yu, Ge Liang, Christopher Cowell, and illustrator Galina Miklínová, among many others. You can find the detailed schedule and register for seminars here.

Other essential features of the Hong Kong Book Fair are its Art Gallery, World of Art and Culture, Mainland China Publishers Zone, and IP Roundtable sections. The art gallery will display works by selected artists, content from classic adaptations of Eileen Chang’s Half a Lifelong Romance and Jin Yong’s The Book and the Sword, and works about featured directors such as Wong Kar-wai and Ho Cheuk-tin. The World and Culture section gathers works by international artist and an AI interactive experience on classic film scenes. Finally, a roundtable will explore the topic of intellectual property in the world of AI.

Morning entry is priced at $10 for all, and you can pay directly with your Octopus card at the entrance. Regular tickets purchased for entry on 17 and 18 July allow one additional entry on any day from 19 to 22 July after 7 pm. A Super Pass is available for purchase, inclusive of multi-entry access for the duration of the fair and priority entry channels. You can purchase tickets in person at all 7-11 and Circle K shops, or online via the BOC Pay app, Alipay and Alipay HK, the Octopus app, and through 01 Space here. You can also download the Book Fair app on Apple and Google Play if you’d like a floor plan and event schedule all in one place.

Last but not least, the Hong Kong Book Fair is organised co-jointly with the HKTDC Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo and the HKTDC Hong Kong World of Snacks. What’s more, any ticket grants you access to the three events!
