Alliance Française de Hong Kong’s fabulous Hong Kong French Film Festival (HKFFF) is returning for its fifty-third edition from 19 November to 10 December! More than 50 films will be screened at various theatres, including Hong Kong City Hall, the Hong Kong Film Archive, Broadway Cinematheque, Movie Movie Pacific Place, Palace IFC, and Premiere Elements, bringing the best of French cinema to town.
Under three themes—Festival Exclusives, Retrospective, and On Design—the selected films celebrate French icons, new releases, up-and-coming talents, and films centred around art and design. Highlights include, but are not limited to, a new adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo, Beating Hearts, The Last Metro starring Gérard Depardieu and Catherine Deneuve, the animated The Most Precious of Cargoes, Sidonie in Japan, comedy-thriller The Balconettes, Being Maria, and more.
In memory of the fortieth year of legendary French New Wave director François Truffaut’s passing, HKFFF will screen 10 of his films, including The 400 Blows, Jules and Jim, and Shoot the Piano Player, as well as two films to honour French actor and film producer Alain Delon, and one film to honour French actor, writer, and director Michel Blanc. Guests of honour who are scheduled to attend HKFFF include Franck Dubosc, Antoine Chevrollier, Camille Razat, and Mélanie Robert.
