Get ready for the first-ever edition of the Inspiring Girls Career Fair, which will be held in Quarry Bay on 18 May. Organised by Inspiring Girls Hong Kong, this local branch of the international non-profit has been actively fighting against gender stereotypes in the professional world and promoting socio-economic mobility for girls. By connecting girls with female corporate leaders, Inspiring Girls aims to equip them with the tools and confidence to follow any career they want to pursue.
Since its launch in Hong Kong, the charity has been working with schools at the upper secondary level located in Hong Kong’s more underprivileged neighbourhoods, hosting events for its female students; the team hosts talks within the schools, networking sessions, and educational and self-development workshops, but also job-shadowing programmes with female role models from various industries.
For one day only, the Inspiring Girls Career Fair will bring together 500 girls already familiar with the non-profit’s activities, and is releasing an extra 100 tickets for girls aged 14 to 17 years old to join the interactive fair.
Partnering companies include Ernst & Young, UBS, Gammon Construction, The New York Times, HSBC Asset Management, CLP Group, Google, and more. Companies present will have representatives stationed at their booths, where girls can go and learn more about possible career paths. To boost everyone’s confidence in approaching the partners, two scavenger hunts will be held, encouraging participants to go up to the professionals, ask about core values, office environment, and soft skills, and get talking about many more topics considered key to building a career.
Participants also have access to one workshop. Workshops include “Networking Into Your Personal Life,” “Personal Statement Writing,” “Thinking Visually—Creative Method For Tangible Outcome,” and “Interpersonal Communication—Presenting Yourself Confidently.” Admission is free—get your ticket here.
