A perfect marriage of Chinese and Western ink strokes, “Through the Gates of Wonder” highlights gems from the K. Y. Ng collection, featuring artwork by self-taught ink painter and calligrapher Hugh Moss. Known as the “Master of Water, Pine and Stone Retreat,” Moss is famed for his career as a renowned Chinese art collector, dealer, and scholar.
Borrowing the name “Through the Gates of Wonder” from the metaphor of scholar’s rocks as visual symbols to represent the gateway to transcendence, the exhibition explores the rhythmic flow of Moss’ brushstrokes that seamlessly integrate a modern twist.
