Knowledge of Design Week (KODW)—Asia’s premier event on design knowledge exchange organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre—is returning to the city in June, promising to present innovative and visionary conversations from the field of design. Under the theme “Inter/Section: Crafting Tomorrow’s Design,” KODW welcomes leaders of diverse design disciplines to promote the exchange of ideas.
Creators, artisans, and policymakers from all over the world are meeting at W Hong Kong on 25 and 26 June and at various off-site venues on 27 June for East-meets-West panel discussions, workshops, masterclasses, and networking events exploring the role and power of design in an evolving society. Each year, KODW is organised in partnership with a chosen country with a cutting-edge design industry—this year’s partner is France, showcasing its strong heritage and modern advances in craftsmanship and technology.
Among the speakers sharing their insights at KODW are Agence NC’s CEO Nathalie Crinière, C-Album’s founder and CEO Laurent Ungerer, Vector Architects’ founder and design principal Dong Gong, Alan Chan Design Company’s founder and creative director Alan Chan, Aesop’s director of global retail design Marianne Lardilleux, designer Lex Pott, France’s Les Arts Décoratifs CEO Sylvie Corréard, Monotype’s creative type director Emilios Theofanous, and many more leaders of the creativity and design worlds.
The three-day programme is packed with enlightening conversations. On the first day of the forum, the opening keynote “Scenography Unveiled: The Art of Inter/Section” will see Crinière sharing her experience in retail scenography. Attendees can join workshops such as “The Making of a Jewel” and “Fragrance and Hues: A Sensory Journey.”
Thought-provoking talks and masterclasses such as “A Timeless Voyage: Crafting Notre Dame’s New Brand Identity,” “Crafting Aesthetics in Exhibition and Curation Design,” or “Preserving Craftsmanship: A ‘Glocal’ Perspective” tackle the essential topic of craftsmanship in design. L’École will also host a workshop and a masterclass centred around jewellery design at K11 Musea. You can explore the full programme here.
