M+ has unveiled its newest exhibition, “Shanshui: Echoes and Signals.” Featuring nine sections and nearly 130 artworks, the exhibition is an ode to shanshui (“mountain and water,” a Chinese landscape-painting technique) and how contemporary artists approach landscapes in our modern world. The result is enticing, with a profusion of paintings, sculptures, photography, video, installations, and more.
Among the vibrant and varied ensemble, some of the most notable pieces on display include Relatum–The Mirror Road by Lee Ufan, a mirror installation visitors can walk on; Region No. 43701–No. 43900, a LED numeral wall by Miyajima Tatsuo; and Yeesook-yung’s striking Flame Variation 3–4. You’ll have to visit to discover why one of the world’s first mobile phones is on display at the heart of a landscape-themed exhibition.
“Shanshui: Echoes and Signals” will run for two years, with some art rotations scheduled. Learn more here.
