Multimedia artist Gary Card is currently exhibiting his work at Oi! Street Art Space as part of the annual Oi! Spotlight programme. Well-known and versatile in his artistic approach, the Londoner has worked with Lady Gaga, Comme des Garçons, and Chanel, among other big names, and is showing his works all around the most prestigious art events in the world. It is Card’s first major solo show in Hong Kong, and it will run until 28 July. Named “People Mountain People Sea,” the indoor and outdoor immersive exhibit stays true to Card’s out-there, colourful style.
The large-scale personified sculptures, paintings, and videos are inspired by a blend of dual iconographies: commercial and sacred, Eastern and Western, and cartoon and realism. That means you can expect to see various cultural and everyday objects incrusted in multicoloured—even psychedelic—pieces of art. Card credits photographs he has taken around Hong Kong as inspiration behind a lot of the items featured in his work, especially those adorning the 15-feet-tall outdoor sculpture The Dream of Mr Somebody. Admission to the exhibition is free. Find out more here.
