Paddles ready, get set, go! Gathering more than 150 teams and over 5,500 athletes, the epic dragon boat competition in Stanley makes a triumphant return!
For Hongkongers, it’s certainly the public holiday that kickstarts the summer season. For competitors, with an eclectic line-up of international athletes and local teams representing their companies, it’s the day they’ve been training for for months. At the Sun Life Stanley International Dragon Boat Championships 2024, the dragon-headed vessels race along a 270-metre distance, and end their momentous run right on the beach, making for an extra special celebration if the team you support comes out on top!
In efforts to make the event eco-friendlier, waste reduction and recycling measures will be in place, as well as free water stations so you can bring your own reusable water bottle. Do note that the roads to Stanley get very congested on the day, so we recommend planning ahead if you don’t want to miss a thing. Catch a bus from Central or Causeway Bay, and prepare for some traffic jams. Don’t let this put you off, though—it’s an exceptionally fun event!
