Ah, the power of an icon. Eternal and forever dazzling, Anita Mui was and still is one the biggest Hong Kong stars. As the “Madonna of the East,” Mui was a pioneer of the Cantopop and Hong Kong film industries, but her influence was felt globally. Her films are definitely among the cultural treasures that Hongkongers are proud of.
The late superstar is at the centre of an exhibition by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum: “Timeless Diva: Anita Mui.” Commemorating the two decades since her untimely passing, it displays records, movie posters, stage costumes, awards, film memorabilia, and pop-culture products while looking back on her impressive career. “Timeless Diva: Anita Mui” was made possible by fashion designer and longtime collaborator Eddie Lau, who generously donated pieces for the exhibition.
Born and raised in the French countryside, Lily arrived in Hong Kong looking for an adventure. Passionate about books, she spent some time in Parisian publishing houses and is the author of an illustrated book about hair. Life in Hong Kong for her entails looking for seaside places to eat and a lot of hiking.
