Haim Steinbach’s first solo exhibition in Greater China, “Haim Steinbach’s Tin Drum,” is presented by White Cube. The artist is known for his use of ordinary objects in installations which he terms “displays.” The unique mundanity of these objects is as complex as cyphers with their own identity, story, and history.
To Steinbach, these objects obtain certain meanings and connotations due to their placement. As he displaces them from their originating space and arranges them into new and unique assemblages, Steinbach asks the viewer to question the perceived understanding of objects and things from a variety of perspectives.
