Arts Month 2024: Best art-themed menus to try in Hong Kong

Calling all art lovers! With Arts Month in full swing, dining outlets around town are joining the fun by offering a variety of artsy menus. Once you’ve clocked in your fair share of gallery-hopping and admired the exhibits at Art Central and Art Basel, make some time for a good meal with some of the best art-themed menus to try during Arts Month 2024 in Hong Kong.

Jaja

The vegetarian, all-in-pink restaurant Jaja has launched a “Taste of Art” dining series just in time for Art Week. Patrons can enjoy an afternoon tea with artfully crafted sweets and savouries such as the one-bite deep-fried risotto ball, the dry apple sliced cranberry cream cheese, and the rose mousse. The set can be nicely paired with the Sky Fall blueberry cocktail topped with cotton candy, or the Fizzy Crystal grapefruit lemon mocktail.

Alternatively, the limited four-course set menu features dishes such as the roasted jackfruit-stuffed portobello, risotto with tomato, bamboo fungus, and mascarpone cheese, and a Picasso DIY cake for dessert. Conveniently located in the Hong Kong Arts Centre, just a few minutes away from the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, why not continue the arts-themed day out after a full day at Art Basel? Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong

Enjoy elevated artistic fare at the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong this month. At Mandarin Grill + Bar, patrons can enjoy the Artisty Moment menu featuring dishes inspired by the works of Jackson Pollock, Damian Hirst, Tom Brown, and Rirkrit Tiravanija. Highlights include The Virtues—Honesty scallop tartare dotted with sakura yuzu and sour cream gel, the Wagyu A5 Kagoshima tenderloin, and an avocado lime mousse.

Over at Clipper Lounge and Café Causette, patrons can enjoy an art-inspired afternoon tea set inspired by five unique pieces on display at Art Basel this year. Highlights include the signature 1963 Mandarin cheesecake, vanilla and almond tart, and mango and vanilla Chantilly. The set also comes with seasonal finger sandwiches and pastries.

Celebrate Art Week with Uma Nota’s limited-time Art Week chef menu. Highlights of the seven-course affair include hamachi ceviche, the signature coxinhas de frango with crispy chicken and okra croquettes, and tataki de carne de sol, a plate of cured beef tenderloin with black garlic mayo and crispy shallots. For dessert, enjoy the Jardim Paulista, an artful nature-inspired creation with almond chocolate soil, chocolate stones, mud berries, and edible flowers. Reserve a spot here.

LPM Restaurant & Bar

For Art Week, LPM Restaurant & Bar has concocted art-inspired cocktails and mocktails, as well as speciality desserts. The cocktail menu, “Recipes For Our Friends,” pays tribute to French artist and writer Jean Cocteau and includes unique blends such as the 1889 Americano with toasted pineapple-infused vermouth and aperitif liqueur, and the Room 22, an absinth fountain served with seasonal ingredients. The food offerings are just as eye-catching so dig into the courgette flowers tempura with cherry tomato sauce, king crab and tomato tart, or refreshing lemon tart with Italian meringue.

Cinephiles enjoying the Hong Kong International Film Festival might like the vibe at Dada Bar + Lounge! The “Silver Screen Sips” series features cocktails inspired by Hong Kong movies and nostalgic local snacks. Highlights include the Dreamlike Inebriation, a concoction of prune vodka, ginger juice, and pu’er tea, served in a vintage Chinese teacup inspired by the Chinese goddess Meng Po (孟婆; maang6 po4), and the Cane Crash cocktail of rum, sugarcane juice, lime juice, and soda water, inspired by hot sugarcane, a snack that used to be served at the movies. If you’re feeling hungry, the salted egg calamari, drunken chicken roll in Shaoxing wine sauce, and egg waffles with peanut butter and vanilla sauce are all good options. Reserve a table here.

The Murray, Hong Kong

Head over to Popinjays at The Murray, Hong Kong to taste cocktails inspired by modern art! In celebration of Arts Week, the popular rooftop bar has crafted four special drinks that pay homage to René Magritte, Frida Kahlo, Cassius Marcellus Coolidge, and Pablo Picasso, including the Son of Man-inspired, citrus-based One Bad Apple to the mezcal, pandan leaf, and lime concoction The Frida.

Catering at Art Central
