Mid-Autumn Festival 2024 is just around the corner! No matter how you celebrate the moon-themed holiday, we’re betting mooncakes are involved. Rosewood Hong Kong is embracing tradition with its mooncake offerings this year, providing customers with a selection of emblematic Mid-Autumn festival favourites. Mooncake flavours this year include white lotus-seed paste with double egg yolk, yellow lotus-seed paste with olive seeds and double egg yolk, and mini egg custard.

If you’re looking for an alternative mooncake box, the Rosewood mini assorted flavour mooncakes has been brought back by popular demand, and includes a mixture of jasmine tea-infused egg custard, lapsang souchong tea white lotus-seed paste, and red-bean paste with mandarin peel mooncakes.

Rosewood Hong Kong’s limited edition The Rosewood Treasure mooncake gift box contains premium Shang Xia Yunnan black tea and pu’er tea, alongside a selection of its most iconic mooncake flavours. Hyatt Centric x Pei Chung

A hotel in the heart of Hong Kong, Hyatt Centric has collaborated with local artist Pei Chung for its 2024 mooncake offerings. Inside the collaborative mooncake gift box are four individually packed egg custard mooncakes, produced locally by the well-loved Patisserie La Lune. The mooncake box is decorated with Pei Chung’s soft watercolour artwork depicting a moonlit Chun Yeung Street, an ode to the heartfelt warmth emanating from the city’s heart. The limited-edition mooncake gift box can be purchased online for collection at The Farmhouse between 17 August to 18 September.

Zeroing in on the beauty of Hong Kong’s harbour, Regent Hong Kong’s mooncake box design shows the Victoria Harbour under a full moon, and colourful lanterns rising towards the moon from the hotel’s vantage point. The boxes’ design was inspired by the gorgeous scenery of Lantau Island underneath the full moon, which explains why the series is named Lantau Moonlight mooncakes. All boxes in this series are available for purchase now either in-person at Yue or on its online shop.

The Island Shangri-La’s one-Michelin-starred restaurant, Summer Palace, is unveiling its delectable range of mooncake series to drum up the festive spirit. The Musang King durian molten lava mooncakes are a must-try for durian aficionados, while the Luna mochi mooncakes present a sumptuous textural experience with soft mochi, velvety taro, and crunchy pistachio.

This Mid-Autumn Festival, Eaton’s one Michelin-starred restaurant Yat Tung Heen has come out with a new set of mooncakes, showcasing luxury and sustainability can go hand in hand.

The new six-piece deluxe mini mooncake assortment gift set includes the popular trio of lava egg custard, lava egg custard white lotus-seed paste, and red-bean paste with mandarin peel flavours. The mini mooncakes are encased in an intricate bamboo-woven box, embellished with a teal cloth and a golden-hued Chinese knot. The beautiful container is upcyclable, and can easily be repurposed into a keepsake box.

Four Seasons Hong Kong

Boasting a two-Michelin-star rating, Lung King Heen is known for its delectable creations. The winter paste mooncakes with rose creates a unique mooncake flavour with just the right level of sweetness. Old but still one-of-a-kind flavours such as the cream custard mooncakes with toasted pine nut, as well as savoury bites like preserved egg and pickled ginger mooncakes, and white lotus-seed paste mooncakes with black truffle and salted egg yolk are making a comeback. The round mooncake box, channelling the shape of the significant moon, also contains a rechargeable LED folding paper lantern.

The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong is launching the Delights of Hong Kong mini egg custard mooncake set, with the city’s iconic landmarks and famous sights adorning the box in vintage ink-printing style. A new offering from the hotel, the Luna Celestia premium tea mooncake gift box features a quartet of Earl Grey tea custard mooncakes and green tea custard mooncakes. The box, a three-tiered gift box with a regal navy blue coating covered in multi-dimensional paper carvings that remind one of the Mid-Autumn Festival, sets this gift apart.

For a more traditional mooncake option, two-Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant Tin Lung Heen has revamped its mooncake box in hues of red and gold. Inside the box are eight egg custard mooncakes, house-made by Tin Lung Heen’s talented chefs, as well as a smaller brown-gold tea box containing five packs of premium black tea. The St Regis Hong Kong’s two-Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant, Rùn, is emphasising the classics this year with its mooncake collection. The trio of flavours include the long-standing white lotus-seed paste mooncake with double egg yolks, crowd-favourite mini lava custard mooncake, and the vegan alternative mini red-bean paste mooncake. The gift box is similarly traditional, as the golden box highlights moon-shaped patterns and rabbits that appear to prance across it. The mooncakes will be up for ordering both online and in person until 17 September, and you can redeem your purchases starting 30 August until 17 September.

Conrad Hong Kong is offering a diverse selection of mooncake fillings, the highlight undoubtedly being the mini Musang King durian mooncakes, filled with egg custard and puréed first-rate Malaysian durian. Quintessential flavours are made unique, as the mini creamed egg yolk mooncakes contain smooth egg custard mixed with bits of salted egg yolk, rather than a classic lava egg custard filling; and the white lotus-seed paste with egg yolk mooncakes are washed with Chinese rose liquor and egg yolk to give them a golden sheen. The Grand assorted mooncakes include a medley of time-honoured flavours, ranging from red-bean paste, white lotus-seed paste with egg yolk, yellow lotus-seed paste with egg yolk, mung-bean paste with egg yolk, and maltitol low-sugar white lotus-seed paste.

With a name like The House Collective, it is no wonder The Upper House Hong Kong, The Middle House Shanghai, The Opposite House Beijing, and The Temple House Chengdu have come up with a Mid-Autumn collection under the theme of collectiveness and cross-border unity.

For the Moonlit Discoveries collection, The House Collective has created four unique mooncake box sets to commemorate the four cities. Imagined as travel journals, each volume’s cover is adorned with views of the city it is dedicated to: a tramway and a skyline for Hong Kong, and a panda and bamboo for Chengdu, for example. Each volume holds quotes and musings by local artists, with insider guides, personal anecdotes, and local sayings—and a selection of eight mini mooncakes is hidden in between pages.

True to local taste, The Upper House Hong Kong set features an assortment of sweet mooncakes with flavours such as the vegan red-bean paste with mandarin peel, low sugar white lotus-seed paste with yolk mooncake, jasmine tea custard mooncake, and coffee with caramel and sea-salt custard mooncake. The Opposite House, The Temple House, and The Middle House volumes house Parma ham, granulated chestnut mooncake, five black nut, and rattan pepper ham mooncakes.

Its boast vintage royal door locks, embellished with the epochal ru-yi knot lace patterns, a night view of Hong Kong, which is further enhanced by the purple colour palette. Hidden beyond the doors of the box are six lava egg custard mooncakes, all imprinted with the iconic W Hong Kong logo. The two-tiered box is also made out of eco-friendly paper, reminding us all to be environmentally conscious during the festivities.

Grand Hyatt Hong Kong’s executive Chinese chef has concocted three brand new flavours, namely the red-bean paste with 25 years dried mandarin peel, egg custard with jasmine pearls tea, and white lotus paste, fermented bean curd, and salted egg yolks, all innovative twists on archetypal flavours included in the One Harbour Road Collection box.

Also available is the Full Moon box, containing white lotus paste with two salted egg yolks mooncakes; as well as the Bright Moon box, which houses lava egg custard mooncakes. The Mira is joining forces with confectionary team Bombshell to present the Lotus Luna Bomb, a gift box with a moon-shaped white chocolate sphere as the centrepiece.

Adorned with dreamy clouds and 3D pop-up paper crafts, an illuminating bed of lotus surrounds this chocolate creation, accompanied by paper rabbits to ramp up the cuteness. The specially curated mooncakes are available in limited quantities at the restaurant on Fridays and Sundays, including four distinct flavours: macadamia nuts and winter-melon paste, taro paste, Yunnan ham, rose, and red-date paste, as well as the tangerine peel and red-bean paste.

In addition to freshly baked offerings, the Michelin-starred restaurant also debuted the mini assorted mooncakes and mini egg custard mooncakes gift sets. If you look to sharing mooncakes with a big family, the eight-inch Royal Supreme mooncake with white lotus-seed paste, ginger, and eight egg yolks is a decadent treat for six to 10 people to share.

Since opening in 2023, The Merchants has been delivering tantalising flavours from Shanghai and its surrounding provinces. To celebrate its second Mid-Autumn Festival, the Michelin-recommended restaurant’s classic mooncakes set is making a comeback.

Its collection of Suzhou mooncakes will surely wow your taste buds. Presenting four distinctive flavours: red bean, red date, black sesame salt and pepper, and seaweed, these crispy and flaky pastries are certainly surprising when you’re used to Cantonese mooncakes. Another highlight among this roster is the savoury mooncakes gift box, offering traditional Xianrou mooncakes filled with juicy and tender meat, worlds apart from Hong Kong’s usual sweet treats.

To help guests savour the joy of reunion, Regal Hotels is presenting its delightful assembly of mooncakes in both traditional and alternative flavours. Presented in exquisite lotus flower boxes, a myriad of mooncake boxes that cater to different palates are available. For those favouring modern fillings, there’s the mini egg custard mooncake trio, which features sought-after classics like the mini egg custard mooncake, mini creamy custard mooncake, and the mini Earl Grey egg custard mooncake. Meanwhile, for mooncake traditionalists, there’s the classic mooncake duo that includes golden lotus-seed paste mooncakes with double egg yolks, and red-bean paste mooncake with mandarin peel. If you wish to further elevate the festivities, there’s the limited-edition Under the Moonlight mooncake box. The set comes with three pieces of mooncakes, a LED lantern, and four packs of exquisitely blended tea. Orders can be made online or at one of the Regal hotels until 17 September. Pick-up will be available from 24 August to 17 September.

Paul Lafayet’s Mid-Autumn Festival offerings tastefully mesh local and French flavours, gracing us with a lava crème brûlée mooncake headlining the quartet of mooncakes also inclusive of low-sugar lava black sesame mooncake, lava jasmine mooncake, and lava coffee mooncake, meshing both tradition and innovation.

The patisserie has once again commissioned French artist Emilie Sarnel to design the mooncake box. Reprising her signature bright-coloured, child-like style, the box with its handle and light switch is adorned with a relief drawing of the moon and a flowery garden. The personified moon is also represented on the individual mooncake packs. The mooncakes are already available for order on Paul Lafayet’s online page. Pick-up and in-store purchases are available until 24 September at locations across Hong Kong.

Hotel Icon’s snow-skin Musang King durian mooncake and white lotus-seed paste with double salted egg yolk mooncakes are both making a reappearance by popular demand.
