Hong Kong’s bar scene is thriving at the start of the new year! If you are tired of your usual cocktail order and looking to try something different, check out some of the best seasonal cocktails available in town, from innovative Hong Kong-inspired menus to brand-new venues.
If you are still recovering from the Christmas and New Year’s drinks, try out LPM’s dry January “Une Petite Pause” menu. Classic cocktail mixes have been transformed into non-alcoholic versions. Highlights include the Nogroni Sbagliato crafted with non-alcoholic vermouth Rosso, Earl Grey tea, and gentian root, and the refreshing L’Orgeat, blended with non-alcoholic Amaretto, lemon, and toasted almonds. Just because there’s no alcohol in it doesn’t mean it’s any less enjoyable!

As part of The Park Lane Hong Kong’s fiftieth anniversary, the mixologists at Skye have curated a cocktail menu under the theme “Timeless Flavours.” It’s divided into “past,” “present,” and “future” categories to represent the hotel’s journey through the past five decades. Rolled out on a quarterly basis, patrons can begin 2024 with concoctions from the “past” section. Highlights include the Bo-Lo-Yau, a creamy blend of butterscotch that pays homage to buttery pineapple buns, and the French 57, a classic mix of elderflower and gin. Raise a toast!

Tucked away in the heart of the bustling Tsim Sha Tsui neighbourhood is 404 Not Found, a new addition to Hong Kong’s bar scene. The atmospheric venue is a laid-back hangout complete with an open bar, pool tables, and a cyberpunk-themed cocktail menu to reference its computer-network-inspired name. Highlights include the vodka-based Drunk 404 with lychee and spices, the gin-based HTTP 404 with rose tea, berries, and rose syrup, and the Error 404, which mixes green-apple-infused vodka with a hint of mustard. Pair your drinks with the signature unlimited Shake Shake fries!

Embark on a unique tasting journey at Qura Bar. Decorated with a combination of Art Deco and vintage elements, this is a sophisticated yet cosy lounge that recently opened at Regent Hong Kong. Accompanying a curated selection of rare spirits and vintage wines is a menu of cocktails, with classics such as the Aviation, Mai Tai, and whisky sour, elevated classics such as the Qura Garibaldi with lavender bitters and botanical aperitif, and vintage cocktails expertly crafted with aged spirits.

Recently opened at Mondrian Hong Kong, guests can now enjoy Avoca’s locally-inspired cocktail menu in a chic and modern lounge. Inspired by Hong Kong’s iconic street food and cha chaan teng favourites, highlights include the sesame and peanut butter sour, a blend of peanut butter rye whiskey, sesame honey syrup, and bitters that pays homage to cheung fun, a popular breakfast item; the 3:15 PM Martini, which puts a boozy twist on the quintessential Hong Kong coffee and milk tea drink known as yuenyeung; and the Haam Neng Mung, a citrusy blend inspired by salted lemonade.

The Mansion is the latest addition to Wyndham Street’s bar scene. The intimate lounge resembles a vibrant cabaret club, complete with retro furnishings and framed artwork lining its walls. The cocktail menu is populated with a series of revamped classics, with highlights such as the piña-colada-inspired The Mansion, a blend of vanilla-infused rum, sherry, and pineapple juice; the indulgent No. 5, which mixes butter-washed bourbon with white port, maple syrup, and chocolate bitters; and To Be or Not to Be, a blend of brandy, blackberry purée, and egg white. Pair your drinks with The Mansion’s unique pintxos menu.

Recently opened in Mira Place is Mue Bar, an alfresco cocktail bar overlooking Tsim Sha Tsui. Guests can expect diverse fusion concoctions, with highlights such as the Pineapple Punch, where Scotch and white rum are shaken with coconut and pineapple juice; the Mai Tai-inspired Mue Thai, a blend of spiced rum, orange-flavoured triple sec, and yuzu topped up with soda water; and the Basil Paloma, a refreshing mix of basil-infused agave, lime, and pomelo.

DarkSide’s latest themed menu is inspired by the yin and yang concept. Divided into two complementary sections, patrons can browse the menu for unique cocktail pairings. The namesake Darkside cocktail, a bold and robust mix of cognac, whiskey, and vermouth garnished with dark chocolate, is paired with its “yang” counterpart, Brightside, a savoury mix of tequila, mezcal, pepper cordial, and clarified guava and grapefruit juice.
