Where to celebrate Diwali in Hong Kong 2023

The most celebrated Indian festival is just around the corner. Spanning five days, Diwali falls on 10 November through to 15 November this year, with the main celebration, Lakshmi Pujan, happening on 12 November. Take part in the festivities and join in on one of the most culturally important events in the Indian calendar with our round-up of where to celebrate Diwali in Hong Kong in 2023.

The Michelin-starred Indian-food expert in Rosewood Hong Kong is hosting a Diwali evening. For one night only, on 12 November, guests can enjoy an eight-course tasting menu that includes flavourful appetisers such as a spinach, pomegranate, and yoghurt palak patte ki chaat, main dishes such as the slow-cooked, saffron-infused lamb chop nihari, and an array of sides and dessert. On 12 November, you can celebrate Diwali at Rajasthan Rifles. The Indian restaurant, located at the top of Victoria Peak, has created a one-time menu for the occasion. With an endless flow of appetisers, tandoori dishes, curries, braised meats, and mithais arriving at your table, this experience is guaranteed to leave you sated and satisfied. In the heart of Central, Chaiwala is cooking up Indian classics with a modern twist to celebrate Diwali this year. For a celebratory Sunday brunch on 12 November, the Diwali brunch set allows you to taste across an expansive array of dishes, with three optional free-flow packages available for add-on. For dinner, you could enjoy a six-course menu that includes chaats, a choice of cheese chasaka or Bombay fried chicken, a choice of tandoori vegetable platter or chicken tikka, four curries to choose from, biryani, and a milk-based am rasmalai dessert. Honky Tonks Tavern

A Spark of Madness is an Asian vegetarian cookbook by chef Simran Savlani. Stranger & Sons is the flagship spirit of Third Eye Distillery, an Indian gin company. Both join forces on 9 November at Honky Tonks Tavern in anticipation of Diwali! This expert food-and-drinks trio will be serving vindaloo mac and cheese, ghee roast paneer sabich with Crack Sauce hummus, popcorn chicken, and more. To accompany these, the team at Honky Tonks has created four cocktails with Strangers & Sons gin!

For dinner on 10, 11, and 12 November, Bengal Brothers is serving an eight-course feast inspired by festive fairs and circuses. Imagined as a family-style dinner, the menu starts with chaats—the stuffed aloo tikki chaat is made with mashed potato cutlets with masala stuffing topped with chutney, and the mela-style bhajiyas are crispy golden fritters of mixed vegetables. Main courses include the tawa chicken masala, smoky ghee-tossed chicken thighs in a semi-dry roast of sautéed onion, tomato, and whole spices; or the Nilgiri paneer korma, an Andhra-style curry of cottage cheese and spinach sautéed with coconut, mint, and South Indian spices. For dessert, rose petal kheer and a platter of mithai are brought to the table.

Celebrating Diwali at home is easy with Uncle Desi’s delivery services. Two menus are available, which can feed anywhere from six people up to 30! Both menus include small plates, mains, sides, and desserts. The Uncle’s Feast menu includes savoury delights such as chicken malai kebab, slow-cooked lamb shoulder, Asian seabass with coconut milk, a chicken biryani with gravy, and much more. Diwali-Bollywood at The Crown

For a celebration under the stars, head over to The Crown at The Emperor Hotel in Wan Chai! On 18 November, the rooftop is turning into a dancefloor for a Diwali-Bollywood party complete with sets by DJ Grish. Early-bird tickets are priced at $300 until 10 November. This week, Lan Kwai Fong is dressing up for Diwali! Bollywood DJ Raz will be playing at two different venues. First, on Thursday, 9 November, Graffiti is hosting a colourful Diwali Glow party. A free-flow package from 10 pm till midnight is included. Get your tickets here.
