A majority of bars and eateries along the High Street of Sai Ying Pun offer outdoor seating, making their establishments dog-friendly, so we search high and low for the not so obvious dog-friendly spots in SYP—diamonds in the ruff, if you will. Bone appétit!
Though technically in Mid-Levels, and not primarily a coffee shop, this book shop is a short walk away from the top of the Sai Ying Pun escalators and is definitely worth a mention. This quiet spot has a range of secondhand books for sale, and a dog-friendly café, where you can sit and enjoy your book whilst you sip on a coffee and tuck into one of their cakes for a spot of afternoon tea.

This independent espresso-slash-natural wine bar also has another location on Queen’s Road Central, with giant windows from floor to ceiling, making it great for people-watching, and our pups have always been welcomed in with us whenever we’ve needed a caffeinated pick-me-up. Their original location in Sai Ying Pun, however, on the comparatively quieter First Street, is a cosier spot to set up camp with your laptop or a good book and enjoy their beverages and snacks. If you’re missing got a furry friend but would like one, their Sai Ying Pun location is just a few doors down from LAP’s Cat Adoption Centre.

Just around the corner from Flying Pig Bistro, tucked away in a little quiet corner, lies the Flying Pig Deli—both of which serve up British comfort foods at its best! The Flying Pig Deli offers a more intimate setting, with a lovely swinging chair out front, making for a nice, quiet brunch spot to catch up with friends. Head on down from 4 pm onwards on a Tuesday or Wednesday to enjoy a half rack of smokin’ BBQ ribs and beer! Not a fan of ribs? Hit them up on a Friday to enjoy their burger deals, and keep your eyes peeled for any other special offers they have coming up!

Your friendly local neighbourhood restaurant—and home to Paws United Charity’s Adoption Days (in pre-COVID times)—these guys aim to make healthy hip, with a farm-to-table policy that guarantees that their food is ultra-fresh. The open layout of this restaurant has a nice, relaxed vibe to it, with the only real traffic passing through these streets being people and their pets. Try their fresh juices and their healthy spin to some Asian classics such as their beef rendang with organic jasmine rice.

Another eatery putting a healthy twist on your everyday food items is Opendoor Café + Courtyard. Try one of their super smoothies or turmeric almond milk lattes, or their gluten-free sandwiches and pasta. Not taking in carbs at all? Try their cauliflower rice dishes! Vegetarian options are also available, and (like the name suggests) this establishment has a courtyard where doggos are totally welcome.

Cake, coffee, and dogs—that’s all you need in life, really. Find Poise Coffee via their Babington Path entrance and enjoy their speciality coffees in the spacious open area inside. Select from a range of drinks, such as their avocado milkshake, Nutella latte, or single-bean coffee prepared by their syphon coffee maker. Pair it with something sweet or savoury, such as one (or all) of their pies, cakes, and pastries. Our favourites include the steak Guinness pie, dark chocolate cake, and apple crumble pastry. Yum!

Enjoy a nice quiet drink and watch the world go by from this Second Street Comfort Food and Bar, which is exactly what this spot offers: hearty comfort food and drinks of your choice! Sit at their high table by their open French doors with your pup and kick back with pub grub favourites such as bangers & mash, a plate of sharing nachos, and maybe an ooey-gooey brownie, topped with vanilla ice cream for afters.

This rustic little coffee shop is beautifully decorated, with cute vintage furnishings that’ll make you want to snap a few pics! Their coffees are dished up in beautiful porcelain cups, and even their takeaway cups are in keeping with the retro vibe, just in case you need a gorgeous cup of joe to go. They also stock teas, which are elegantly presented upon serving, and offer up light bites in the form of your favourite brunch menu items, such as the bagel with cream cheese, avocado & salmon ($105). Their dog-friendly area is a covered outdoor area at the front of the shop, but only offers a few seats, so be sure to get there early with your pup if you can!

Not the first place that comes to mind when you think of dog-friendly restaurants in Sai Ying Pun, which is exactly why we have featured this family-run neighbourhood restaurant and bar. Enjoy breakfast, brunch, and lunch at the Tuckshop with your pets, who welcome you and your friends indoors. Although they are open from 9 am to 5 pm during the week, this space is best visited on a weekend if coming with your dogs, as the space is also used by co-working company Garage Society and its members during the week. Enjoy a coffee with your pancakes, or if you’re after something more savoury, they also serve sous-vide chicken on a bed of rice or salad, and cold Sanuki udon, amongst other items on the menu.
