If you thought Swedish furniture giant IKEA is only good for affordable home furnishings that give us mad #homeinspo vibes, think again. For the first time ever, IKEA Hong Kong is participating in Mid-Autumn Festival traditions and launching a line of specially-made fruit-flavoured speciality mooncakes!
This year, Hongkongers will have one more contender to choose from when buying mooncakes, because IKEA is releasing a collection of four different mooncake flavours. Sold in sets of four—with one of each flavour—these snow skin mooncakes include mango, chocolate, elderflower, and lingonberry flavours.
Needless to say, it’s the latter two that are the most attention-grabbing. Clearly inspired by IKEA’s house-brand fruit drinks and cordial, the lingonberry mooncake is made with cream cheese to balance out the tart sourness of the northern fruit, and the result is a rich yet fresh taste—the likes of which Hong Kong has never seen before. We’re very partial to a portion or two of Swedish meatballs, which we will always insist on having with IKEA’s famous lingonberry jam, so this brand-new food offering should be interesting to check out.
IKEA’s collection of mooncakes will be available at all four of their Hong Kong branches starting from today, while the Macau branch will start retailing the mooncake set on 9 September. Each box of four only costs $49, so seize the chance to try this absolute steal over this Mid-Autumn Festival.
