And that’s two! Swimmer Siobhán Bernadette Haughey has cinched the bronze medal at the women’s 200-metre freestyle swimming final on 29 July, securing the third Olympic medal of her career, and the second medal for Hong Kong at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Haughey’s race and pace were as impressive as ever as she took the lead for the first 150 metres of the swim, eventually arriving in third place at 1:54.55 to stand on the podium with the two Australian athletes who won gold and silver, Mollie O’Callaghan and Ariarne Titmus.
It’s the second time that 26-year-old Haughey competes in the Olympics, and the third Olympic medal she brings home to Hong Kong. Breaking records at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with two silver medals, Haughey became the first swimmer to win an Olympic medal for Hong Kong, and the first athlete to win two medals in any sport for Hong Kong.
Good luck to Haughey who will compete in the first of three rounds to qualify for the women’s 100-metre freestyle final later today.
