Hong Kong swimmer Siobhán Bernadette Haughey obtained her second bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics—and the fourth for Hong Kong this tournament—by arriving in third position at the women’s 100-metre freestyle swimming final on 31 July.
Haughey shared the podium with Swedish world-record holder Sarah Sjöström and United States representative Torri Huske, and the three athletes were neck and neck up to the finish line. Sjöström finished at 52.16, Huske at 52.29, and Haughey’s final time was recorded at 52.33 seconds, with less than one second between the three swimmers.
Even beyond the podium, the race was tight. Australian swimmer Mollie O’Callaghan, who was a favourite for the win, touched the wall of the pool just 0.01 seconds after Haughey. With this fourth medal, Haughey becomes the most decorated Olympian for Hong Kong!
