Techbob Discovery Center has officially opened at Repulse Bay, inviting Hong Kong kids aged between 3 and 18 to explore the exciting world of STEAM learning. The impressive 4,000-square-foot space at The Pulse, aims to enlighten, engage, and empower children to learn and apply the fundamental concepts of science, technology, engineering, art and design, and maths, while having heaps of fun along the way.
The STEM education movement has gained impressive momentum across the globe, as more and more countries are realising the value in children gaining proficiency in collaboration, questioning, problem-solving, and critical thinking. It is only now, however, that youngsters in Hong Kong are being given the opportunity to adopt it themselves, with Techbob adding an 'Art' element to the traditional structure, converting STEM to STEAM.
Activities at Techbob Discovery Center include robotics, game and web coding, architecture, entrepreneurship, and creative learning. There are four game zones for kids to explore, including an Inventors' Zone, where children get to take part in various robotics, coding and architecture workshops, and also a LEGO creation class taught by certified LEGO Serious Play instructors; a Challengers’ Zone, where they can play exciting and interactive games including Racers Challenge, Robo Soccer, and Robo War Game; a Makers’ Zone, with different intellectual engineering and architectural building activities and a Discovery Game Screen that lets kids play different motion sensing games; and an Explorers’ Zone, which lets kids from 3 years old program and build robots
And it's not only kids that get to have all the fun, too. Founder of Techbob Academy, Harry Chai, believes that STEAM learning not only nurtures the next generation on their interdisciplinary capabilities, but also enhance their parent-child relationships. As a result, parents are invited to join in the play zones and witness the impact of STEAM on their child’s potential development, while strengthening the bond between them. With so many proven benefits to the development of children, it comes as no surprise that Techbob has plans to bring its STEAM learning programme to Mainland China and Eastern and Southern Asian markets in the coming future. Until then, your little ones can experience it for themselves on the Southside.
