Love My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away so much that you wish to show your love for them wherever you go? Now you can—Studio Ghibli, Japan’s famed animation house, has launched the very first overseas location of its lifestyle brand, GBL, in Hong Kong!
Outfitted in a similar industrial style as the main Shibuya store in Japan, GBL Hong Kong specialises in fashion accessories, home décor, and lifestyle products, all featuring popular Studio Ghibli characters as part of the merchandise design. From intricately embroidered sukajan (スカジャン; souvenir jackets) to skateboards and everyday tote bags and knitted beanies, GBL puts forth a retro-inspired, streetwear aesthetic.
Home products and outdoor gear are featured as well, with patterned hammocks and character-shaped carabiners on offer. And who wouldn’t love to have a quirky pendulum clock in the form of the grinning Catbus swinging from their walls?
GBL is also collaborating with well-known international and Japanese brands like Momotaro Jeans, LL Bean, Ojaga Design, and Russell Athletic for limited-time crossover collectables, like keychains, coach jackets, porcelain mugs, coin purses, and much more.
Studio Ghibli fans who cannot wait to browse the goods at GBL are in for a first-come, first-served surprise! In celebration of its first overseas location in Hong Kong, shoppers whose purchases exceed $800 at Donguri Republic in Causeway Bay will receive a special-edition GBL Hong Kong bag as a free gift (while stocks last; the purchase in question must also include at least one GBL product to be considered eligible for the freebie).
