Hong Kong is bursting with coffee shops, and new openings are appearing left and right. Holding its own against neighbouring rivals South Korea and Japan when it comes to coffee and cafés, our city definitely has its own eclectic roster to boast about. After all, who doesn’t need their daily dose of caffeine or thirst-quenching drink to start the day? Join us as we round up the latest cafés and coffee shops popping up in the city.
Newly opened in Taikoo Place is Maya, an artisanal vegan bakery and bar powered by the folks behind The Cakery and Cultured. An array of pastries is on offer, including plant-based alternatives to local classics such as the vegan egg tart and pandan pineapple bun. Other items on offer include freshly baked bagels, croissants, and filling options such as the mushroom fermented truffle cream “cheeze” sourdough. To go with your pastry, order an espresso kombucha or the Power Berry smoothie. A range of refreshing cocktails is available after 6 pm.

Located right next to the Tuen Mun Swimming Pool MTR Light Rail station, The Bay by Café au Lait is a contemporary café with floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing natural light to pour in. Popular mains on the menu include the carbonara and the unagi risotto, while the classic all-day breakfast is not to be missed. On the drinks menu, patrons can expect the usual coffee selection as well as tea, soda, juices, and hot chocolate with unique flavours available, including passion fruit and rose.

Lungo’s latest branch has opened in Cheung Sha Wan! The hipster coffee shop offers light meals, with its bagel sandwiches being the most popular. Bestselling savoury options include the smoked salmon and onion bagel and the chicken and mustard bagel. Sweet options include black sesame and blueberry bagels with cream cheese. On the drinks menu, expect the usual coffee orders, as well as speciality tea lattes such as the osmanthus oolong latte.

Coffee lovers in Island East are in for a treat—Jomo has opened a new location in Taikoo Shing! Looking bright with its entirely white décor and furnishings, the new shop offers a wide and healthy range of pastries, mains, and desserts. Its breakfast items are not to be missed, with highlights such as eggs Benedict on sourdough and the all-day breakfast. As for sweet items on the menu, the irresistible signature chiffon cakes come in a variety of flavours. As well as coffee, the drinks menu offers speciality drinks such as candied passion fruit and orange tonic and coffee jelly oat milk.

Bougel Café has recently relocated to Tuen Mun! Sporting a rustic and cosy décor with its green cast-iron garden chairs just outside the shop and vintage-looking dinnerware, this is an ideal location for a lazy start to your weekend. A wide range of baked goods is on offer, including bagels, croissants, cronuts, scones, cakes, and so much more! The usual coffee orders are available from Bougel, but we recommend ordering a milk-based drink as its baristas are experts at creating stunning latte art.

Located on the corner of School Street and Lai Yin Street in Tai Hang, Youka Café is a welcoming space with green exteriors contrasting with the simple white and wooden interiors. Youka serves brunch items and pasta dishes, and highlights include chicken breast rigatoni tossed in laksa sauce as well as a hearty all-day breakfast. As for drinks, expect the usual coffee orders during the day, and a selection of sake and yakitori available for dinner!

Newly opened along the Tseung Kwan O Promenade is Stay With Café, a pet-friendly establishment with plants and flowers all around that make for the perfect photoshoot with your doggy. Serving up delicious grub, the menu includes scrambled eggs and avocado on homemade sourdough and crab meat mentaiko spaghetti. As for drinks, expect the usual coffee orders alongside speciality creations such as the tiramisu coffee, which comes dusted with cocoa powder and topped with a ladyfinger.

Calling all cat lovers—a new cat café has opened! Café InFluffy has a spacious interior for its feline staff to roam around in, while offering ample space for humans to dine comfortably. InFluffy has a vegetarian menu with a wide variety of offerings across mains and snacks, such as pumpkin risotto and veggie burger with hash brown. Its drinks menu is equally varied, and you can expect the usual coffee orders alongside speciality drinks such as rose latte.

Ko Shan Culture is a health-focused minimalist café located inside the newly renovated Ko Shan Theatre in Hung Hom. Enjoy a relaxing moment with a cup of hazelnut latte in Ko Shan Culture’s spacious interior while enjoying sweeping views of the Ko Shan Theatre garden. Light meals and cakes are on the menu, including a yummy all-day breakfast platter with scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, slow-cooked chicken breast, and quinoa salad, as well as an onsen egg beef ragu with tagliatelle.
