With mid-season sales everywhere around us and the prospect of Christmas shopping looming on the horizon, it’s all too easy to overindulge in our never-ending want for retail therapy. Hong Kong has long been known as a shopper’s heaven, and there’s little that us Hongkongers like better than to clinch a bargain or five.
But did you know that almost one-third of clothes in Hongkongers’ wardrobes are never or rarely worn? Impulse buying really is the devil in us. Worse still, nearly a third of us discard unwanted clothing items directly into the trash without thinking about upcycling or donation—as a result, approximately 196 tonnes of clothing enter our landfills every day!
This is why environmental NGO Redress is launching their October initiative, Get Redressed Month, to encourage consumers to revive, restyle, and recycle clothes instead of consistently generating waste. Do your bit to change negative clothing consumption behaviours by taking part in Get Redressed Month 2020’s online competition, the “Hunt for the Oldest Piece of Clothing in Hong Kong”!
From now until 11.59 pm, 30 October 2020, all you have to do to enter is share photos and stories of your oldest piece of clothing on Redress’ Facebook, Instagram, or website. The 10 most inspiring entries will receive vouchers to spend in pre-owned designer clothing store, HULA! Furthermore, five other entries will win a copy of the book Dress [with] Sense, Redress’ consumer guide to creating a more environmentally conscious wardrobe.
Hop onto Redress’ website on to enter the competition, do your bit for the environment, and stand to win pre-loved designer clothing! Click here to enter now.
First prize (three winners): $700 HULA voucher
Second prize (seven winners): $350 HULA voucher
Third prize (five winners): 1 x Dress [with] Sense book each
Winners will be notified by email by 10 November 2020.
