Statue Square unveils an interactive Christmas tree

By Localiiz 21 December 2019

If you’re on the lookout for a beautiful backdrop to commemorate the start of a new decade, you might want to make a pit stop in Central. As the holidays draw near, the striking Christmas tree at Statue Square is finally unveiled, revealing a modern and playful design that makes a mark amidst the forest of glittering skyscrapers.

Designed by an international team called the Xmas Designers—a group that aims to bring holiday cheer to the world all year round—the 18-metre Christmas tree at Statue Square boasts a dramatic silhouette that is assembled from artistic geometric shapes. Lined with reactive LED light strips, the tree responds and changes colours according to the time of day and absorbs hues from its ever-shifting surroundings. It also reacts to the colour of the visitors’ clothes! Now that’s an interactive Christmas tree if we’ve ever seen one.

Whilst most festive displays are meant to be seen and not touched, Statue Square’s Christmas tree allows visitors to walk through the centre of the installation to experience an “enlightening journey” and get up close and personal with a host of stylised holiday characters that we all know and love, like Santa Claus, reindeers, and snowmen.

Set against the metropolitan backdrop of Hong Kong, this Christmas tree is proving itself to be one stunning display. Visitors can view it from now until 1 January 2020, with illumination times at 5pm–11pm, except for 24–25 and 31 December 2019, where illumination times will be extended from 5pm–1am.
