Temple Mall invites art enthusiasts and casual shoppers alike to immerse themselves in the enchanting world of blue-and-white porcelain this autumn. From 2 September to 31 October 2024, the mall will host the “Blue-and-White Porcelain Impressions” event, a unique celebration of this millennia-old cultural treasure, blending tradition with contemporary artistic expression.
In collaboration with local artist Angel Hui, the exhibition showcases the intricate aesthetics of blue-and-white porcelain while celebrating the vibrant culture of the Wong Tai Sin neighbourhood. Hui, who has recently exhibited her fine creations at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, is a local artist who is widely recognised for her ink work. This partnership not only highlights the rich heritage of the porcelain medium but also reinterprets it through a modern lens.
Blue-and-white porcelain has a long-standing history in Chinese culture, renowned for its delicate artistry and intricate designs. Hui’s work, including her reinterpretation of embroidered goldfish on plastic bags, reflects a blend of nostalgia and modernity that will resonate with the whole family!
Temple Mall’s “Blue-and-White Porcelain Impressions” stands as a testament to the enduring allure of blue-and-white porcelain and its relevance in today’s art scene. The collaboration with Hui brings a fresh perspective to a traditional craft, making it accessible and enjoyable for all. Her innovative approach includes a stunning four-metre-tall kaleidoscopic installation, a visual delight for all visitors. Whether you’re an art lover, a curious shopper, or simply looking for a way to spend a delightful day, this event promises a unique experience that celebrates both heritage and modern creativity.
One of the many highlights of the experience is the immersive art workshop, led by Hui herself. On 5 October, attendees will have the chance to learn about the art form first-hand from Hui, who will guide them in painting elegant blue-and-white patterns. What better way to foster one’s sense of creative expression than a hands-on experience? For those who want to join the workshop, becoming a Link Up member is essential, and members can participate after meeting a specified spending requirement in the mall.
The experience doesn’t stop there. Temple Mall is sweetening the deal with a range of exclusive, limited-edition gifts for shoppers. For the duration of the exhibition, customers who register as Link Up members and make qualifying purchases can redeem unique blue-and-white themed art gifts designed by Hui.
Among these treasures is a special-edition Camel vacuum flask, perfect for enjoying your favourite beverages on the go. Additionally, shoppers can look forward to an adorable cat-themed cup produced in Jingdezhen, a city famed for its porcelain craftsmanship. The offerings also include a tea gift box set from MZK Life Store. Finally, Hui’s four new blue-and-white porcelain works, inspired by the Wong Tai Sin community, have been transformed into coasters, providing a functional yet artistic addition to any home.
The “Blue-and-White Porcelain Impressions” event will run daily from 11 am to 8 pm at Temple Mall North. This engaging exhibition is not just for art aficionados—it’s a family-friendly event that encourages everyone to appreciate the beauty of blue-and-white porcelain in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.
