Returning to our city this
November 21 to December 11, the
Hong Kong French Film Festival is one of the longest-running film festivals in Hong Kong history. Organised by the
Alliance Française de Hong Kong, the festival is set to take movie buffs on an exciting journey into the world of French cinema, screening 42 acclaimed French Films across seven theatre locations.
This year, the film screenings will be categorised under four key themes. The 'International Festival Acclaim' section will showcase a fantastic collection of films that have previously been presented in international festivals such as the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Venice International Film Festival.
Meanwhile, 'Merry Laughter' will feature some of the most hilarious comedies of the year, while 'Mother and Son' will convey the importance of motherhood through a series of mother and son stories. And finally, the category of 'Love Always' will explore the theme of love through various forms of relationships on screen.
Throughout the festival, film fans will be given several opportunities to meet and chat with renowned French directors and film composers such as Pierre Salvadori (director of
The Trouble With You), Denis Do (director of
Funan), Serge Franklin (film composer of
Day of Atonement), and Oscar-winner Alexandre Desplat (film composer of
Rust & Bone).
Ticket sales have already begun, so hurry and grab yours now! In the mean time, here are some of the highlights to watch out for during the festival:
Belleville Cop (Le Flic de Belleville)
Belleville Cop tells the thinly veiled, but hilarious story of when Baaba, a police officer in Belleville, moves to Miami after witnessing his childhood friend being murdered right before his eyes. During his time there, he is forced to team up with Ricardo, a local out-of-shape cop, to work together in bringing down the criminals.
Girls of the Sun (Les Filles du soleil)
This is a story based on true events, where two female characters become immersed in fierce skirmishes between the Kurds and Islamic extremists as they try to take back their town.
