Crack Me Up: The Best Comedy Clubs Around Hong Kong

By Sophie Pettit 15 September 2018
They say that laughter is the best medicine, and if that's the case, then our city's comedy clubs are the perfect remedy. Luckily for us, there's a comedy night on almost every day of the week, bringing both well-known faces and amateur comics to the stage, as well as offering you the spotlight for your own five minutes of fame.

The Punchline Comedy Club

This long-standing comedy club brings some of the world's most hilarious comedians to the stage every month in Hong Kong. Hosted at Tamarind and several other venues around the city, The Punchline Comedy Club has been a firm favourite with Hongkongers for over twenty years, offering barrels of laughs from top international personalities and serving a tasty pre-show buffet and happy hour drinks between 6pm and 7.30pm.

Chuckle your way through Tuesday evenings at TakeOut Comedy – the first full-time comedy club in Asia. The club hosts shows at its venue in Central as well as Champs Bar in Causeway Bay every Friday and Saturday evening. There is also an open mic night every Tuesday for wannabe stand-ups who dare to take to the stage and enjoy an hour of comedy gold. Bar 109

Who says Mondays have to be blue? Laugh yourself senseless every Monday night as seasoned comics and first-timers take to the stage at Bar 109. With three years of open mic comedy under its belt, this Wan Chai hangout has definitely earned its place on Hong Kong's comedy circuit. If you fancy test-driving your material, get down to Bar 109 at 8pm to secure your slot and claim your complimentary beer (what better way to settle those last-minute nerves, ay?). For the rest of us, it's time to kick back and enjoy the show! Bar 109, G/F, 109 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai Every Monday, (8.30pm - 10pm) Free entry

Champs Bar

It's time to hand back the mic and let the professionals do their thing. One Thursday evening a month, Champs Bar in Causeway Bay becomes a comedy hub. Quick-witted TakeOut Comedy legend, Paul Ogata, and author of Hot Chocolate For The Mind, Dwayne Perkins are among the famous faces who have taken to the stage here, and with a gastro-pub menu packed full of tasty goodies and drinks, this is the perfect place to laugh the night away.
