Bringing together a world of cuisines, Hànội offers a plethora of excellent restaurants, all in one city. With its historical background and neighbouring regional influences, the city’s dining scene is rich in culture, making every meal exciting. We round up some of the best restaurants in Hànội, from French fine-dining to casual, local eateries, for a diverse taste of the city’s most well-kept spots.
Paying tribute to its French colonial influences, La Terrasse Du Metropole serves traditional French cuisine in an elegant Parisian-style setting. The restaurant is housed at Sofitel Legend Metropole and offers serene views of the city centre. Decked in polished furnishings—from the timber deck to the vintage fans—the eatery is also known for its delicious food. Inspired by the casual ambience found in Paris bistros, La Terrasse Du Metropole updates and elevates the style with gourmet food, which includes oysters, French cheeses, and steak-frites combos, to name a few. Pair your sample menus with a glass of premium French wine for an indulgent evening out.

One of the more hidden local finds, Chả Cá Lã Vọng is nestled in a narrow corner of the Old Quarter, serving up its one-dish-wonder—the Chả cá Lã Vọng. The restaurant provides authentic Vietnamese cuisine, sprinkled with aromatic spices. Fresh river fish is the must-order of the menu, which arrives at the table with a personal charcoal cooker. With this comes all of the condiments—peanuts, fresh herbs, and fresh rice noodles—to go with the main meat. Add a dash of fish sauce and chilli to taste.

Located in the iconic Old Quarter, a one-stop destination for French and Vietnamese cuisine, Green Tangerine Restaurant has been around since 2003. Housed in a refurbished 1920s French villa, the eatery features rustic décor, giving it an old-school feeling. It also offers a lush garden space, which is rare to find at places in Hànội. The artisanal dishes at Green Tangerine Restaurant are famous for their outstanding flavour. Some particular favourites include the duck breast carpaccio and the black coffee-marinated roasted pigeon. Guests come here day and night to experience the homemade touch incorporated in each dish—and don’t forget to order a scrumptious dessert to finish.

KOTO stands for “Know One, Teach One” and serves as a Vietnamese café and restaurant, specialising in regional dishes—and the iconic Vietnamese coffee. The food and view are exquisite, but the main highlight of this eatery is that it encourages street children to learn and earn a living by working in the restaurant. Thus, the staff are extremely friendly and accommodating to its guests, too.

Peering over the elegant Hoàn Kiếm Lake and the lush grounds of Hànội, Cầu Gỗ is located in the Old Quarter, where French cuisine meets Vietnamese favourites. Serving Vietnamese dishes with influences from Hànội, Hồ Chí Minh City, and Central Vietnam, the menu presents a contemporary twist on all three regions. Book a table here on a cool weekend evening and be sure to request an outdoor table for views of the lakeside.

Pizza lovers may be surprised to hear that Hànội houses one of the most delicious pizza joints in the country. Well, it does. That’s because the homemade cheese is sourced from dairy cows in the highlands (Đà Lạt, to be specific), which are sprinkled atop the traditional Italian pizzas at Pizza 4P’s. The eatery focuses on using fresh, local ingredients, and every pizza is made with love and care. Try a range from the vast selection of pizzas from the menu.
Situated inside a colonial-style mansion, La Verticale is a fine-dining restaurant in Hànội‘s French Quarter. The seasonal menu focuses on local produce and ingredients, prepared with traditional French cooking techniques. Some of the best dishes to order include the duck terrine, ratatouille, and Mekong fruit sorbet—paired with a full-bodied glass of red or crisp white, of course.
