Now that the pandemic situation in Hong Kong seems to have stabilised further, all sectors are looking ahead to leisure and travel opportunities opening back up. Perk up: There has been recent news that the Hong Kong government is going to re-launch their campaign to give away plane tickets!
Last April, the Airport Authority Hong Kong injected liquidity into our hard-hit aviation and travel industry by purchasing approximately 500,000 air tickets from the city’s four home-based airlines: Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Express, Hong Kong Airlines, and Cathay Dragon (now defunct).
The plan was to then give away the tickets to Hong Kong residents and global visitors in a market recovery movement after the Covid-19 situation stabilises. According to Hong Kong Economic Times, that moment of magnanimity is finally around the corner, and the giveaway will take place in the form of a lucky draw to complement the current “Staycation Reward” campaign. Locals news sources also indicate that the Hong Kong Tourism Board might be collaborating with travel agencies to launch affordable travel packages—keep your eyes peeled and ears perked for all these potential offers!
With the lifting of lockdown measures, F&B venues and amenities opening back up, and our iconic Ocean Park giving massive discounts, these half a million free plane tickets are yet another step on Hong Kong’s journey back to normalcy and we can’t wait!
