Memories of a Spell
Whether it's the aroma of swirling incense filling the air, the red and yellow lanterns dancing in the breeze, the golden afternoon sun breaking through the trees, or prayers being whispered on the wind, there is so much magic to be found in Hong Kong.
Nobody believes this more than Italian documentary filmmaker
Andre Shaman, who found himself spellbound during several visits to the city while he was filming a documentary about fortune tellers in South East Asia. Combining the words from his own reading with the sights and sounds of the city, he beautifully captures the magic and madness of life in Hong Kong in his video,
Memories of a Spell.
"While working on a personal and bigger project about fortune tellers, I found myself travelling up and down Hong Kong, watching the city through the windows of taxis and other public transport," Shaman tells Localiiz. "Hong Kong's voices and sounds mixed in my head with the mysterious words of a fortune teller, turning those confusing window scenes into wonderful memories - memories of a spell.
"In Hong Kong I feel like I am at home, I love the cultural contrast, its wonderful nature alongside its fast-paced city life, the quality and the diversity of food, the seaside, and its spiritual life. The city is a place of big contrasts living together, it's like a magic place where I feel comfortable and I want to show people that is it's not only a big business city, it is a place of culture, tradition, and nature which are never far away."
Well we certainly got goosebumps watching this – we only wish we knew what the fortune teller was saying ...
or do we?
