Where to Buy the Best Custom-made Men’s Shoes in Hong Kong

By Mat Gallagher 28 November 2018
Yes, it’s true – the shoes really do make the man. A good pair of bespoke brogues will make any outfit, whether it’s for an interview, a date, or just a day in the office. So, unless you’ve got the shoes right, that slick haircut and slim fitting suit are wasted. Here's our pick of the best custom hand-made shoes in Hong Kong.

Shoe Artistry

Shoe Artistry is the work of fashion and jewellery designer Kit Lee Ya-jing and product designer Jeff Wan Chung-sing. They bought the equipment – and employed one of the craftsmen – from Ming Kee Shoes, one of the city’s original shoemakers that closed after 40 years in 2011. Shoe Artistry creates bespoke shoes with 3D printed insoles to match your foot exactly. Prices start from $3,600 including analysis, and additional pairs are available from $1,800. John Lobb

This London bootmaker has been around since the 19th century and today makes a range of bespoke and ready-to-wear shoes for men and women. Its store in Prince’s Building offers both a custom-build from a range of existing styles, and a full bespoke service to create the perfect shoes for your feet – though expect to pay handsomely for these expertise. Prices start from around $60,000 for bespoke shoes and around $10,000 for custom-build.

Berluti

The French leatherware company, now part of LVMH, has been making shoes and boots since 1895. It still focuses on a range of shoes and leather goods, with a wide variety of personalisation options available. Most products in the range can be specially coloured, tattooed, or hot stamped to create something individual for an added cost, while a full bespoke service is also available at all four stores in Hong Kong, starting from $69,000.

Kow Hoo Shoe Company

Hong Kong’s oldest custom shoemaker, Kow Hoo, has been in the city since 1946, but started life in Shanghai back in 1928. It can custom make a shoe to fit just about any design, leather type, or colour. Once your measurements have been taken, the wooden last is kept on file for at least seven years, so that you can reorder without having to be remeasured, making it ideal for overseas customers. They can even base the sizes from an old pair of shoes that fit you well, sent to them in the mail. Prices range depending on the style, but start from around $15,000.

Zee's Leatherware & Shoes

Zee’s has been making shoes in Hong Kong for over 50 years. It also offers an assortment of handbags, wallets, and other leather goods, but the shoes are the focus here. There are a range of styles on offer in the small store, or you can come with your own ideas and create something unique. Once your measurements are on file, you can also order again with ease. Prices start from around $2,000.
